September Seasonal Guide

What’s in season this September

September brings a shift in the flower calendar, with late-summer varieties still coming through alongside richer colours, berries, grasses and textural foliage that signal the move into autumn.

Classic Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas are in full swing and, as the season turns, richer russet and autumnal tones begin to come through. On the Webshop, look for Hydrangeas marked Classic, including varieties such as Pimpernel, Verena, Glowing Alps and Magical Ruby Red.

As we bridge the gap between summer and autumn, some of the shorter-season varieties begin to arrive. Look out for Crocosmia, thornless Rubus, Symphoricarpos, Rosehips and Sedums.

In season

Ornamental grass season

Ornamental grass season is in full swing. From delicate Panicum and tactile Setaria to the distinctive flat seed heads of Chasmanthium. Grasses are at their most plenty now and are perfect for bringing movement, texture and shape into floral work.

Also look out for Pennisetum as the season progresses, alongside the rich red foliage of Imperata ‘Red Baron’.

September also brings a change in foliage. Look out for seasonal Quercus and Photinia, alongside preserved and stabilised Beech and Oak. Smilax is also available to pre-order in full and half boxes, while our British Grown selection continues to change with the season.
